At Adelaide Heath Academy we pride ourselves in offering a supportive and nurturing primary environment where we are passionate about challenging students to be their very best; to make the right choices which will keep them healthy and safe. Our aim is for all of our students is to be empowered and to discover their love of learning to achieve their full potential.
Our students enjoy learning in a mixed cohort lower primary setting. Student from years 3, 4 and 5 enjoy developing a sense of responsibility for themselves and are supported to become independent members of our school and local community.
Year 6 are in a separate class within our primary hub. This allows for the opportunity to further stretch, challenge and support them with the transition into our secondary setting. Students will be entered for KS2 SATS tests if they are at the standard required to access them.
We offer a broad and balanced quality curriculum which has high expectations of all learners. Our Curriculum is delivered through a thematic approach so knowledge and skills are remembered and consistently applied, linking all aspects of learning.
In addition, we provide different opportunities to develop the whole child holistically by incorporating sensory activities, relaxation, massage and a variety of out of school experiences.
Adelaide Heath primary curriculum promote the resilience, success and communication skills to support and develop effective, independent communicators within a safe a secure setting.
Our Curriculum Intent

Sensory and Group Play
Sensory play encourages learning through exploration, curiosity, problem solving and creativity. It helps to build nerve connections in the brain and encourages the development of language and motor skills to enable them to become emotionally intelligent.
Our primary curriculum incorporates sensory activities through-out the week. These activities are guided by the needs of the students taken from their EHCP’s.
Sensory activities immerse students in a variety of textures and sensations, from squishy slime to smooth sand and fresh water play. We develop motor skills through activities such as dough disco, threading and control skill activities. Alongside the fun, we embrace mindfulness through activities such as yoga, peer massage and mindful colouring sessions. These activities promote relaxation and support focus.
Year 6 Rectangle Time
In year 6 we have rectangle time every day and we use ‘Shelley the Social Squid’ to guide us. In this nurturing environment, students can freely express their emotions while others listen with respect. Alongside heartfelt discussions, important topics like dental hygiene are explored. With Shelley’s guidance, our students offer supportive advice to their peers, fostering a culture of understanding and compassion.
