At Adelaide Heath we aim to ensure English is a key factor in promoting our student’s ability to communicate for a range of purposes and audiences in order to provide them with life skills for the future. We aim to ensure we foster a love of the subject by providing engaging lessons and exciting stimuli through a range of cross-curricular means.
Our primary literacy curriculum is delivered through the Power of Reading programme to ensure students are exposed to high-quality texts and vocabulary. We strive to teach an English curriculum that is creative, engaging and develops a love of literacy. Students are immersed into the text through music, art, drama, discussion and role-play. These teaching approaches deepen students understanding and provides a meaningful context for writing.
We combine the Power of Reading with VIPERSS to support the raising of standards in reading and writing through developing inference, deduction and comprehension skills.
The Power of Reading resources enable teachers to contextualise language, grammar, phonics and spelling in meaningful ways and plan for progression, enabling students to be challenged. The Power of Reading meets all requirements of the English National Curriculum.
