Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, students design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. In each practical lesson students follow a routine which allows them to work independently; build resilience and be successful in every lesson whilst building skills and developing technique. KS2 students have one lesson per week.

The Food Technology curriculum at Adelaide Heath Academy aims to ensure that all students develop the skills and qualities to flourish in real world setting. KS2 students have one double food tech lesson per week. This lesson is predominately practical; starter and plenary activities are used for knowledge building linked to the National Core Competences. Occasionally lessons are used for a purely theoretical lesson this would still have a practical element i.e. group activity/taste test/demonstration. Year 6 Students will follow the same curriculum but will develop their independence skills and a bank of knowledge related to nutrition, using equipment, skills competencies and a more extensive range of cooking methods.

Both subjects follow the primary thematic topic-based curriculum to ensure that links and skills are reinforced, contributing to the full engagement of students.
