At Adelaide Heath Academy the English Curriculum endeavours to empower students with the knowledge and skills to develop their resilience to become the best writers, communicators, readers and thinkers and promote independence by supporting students to cultivate self-help strategies along the way.
Learners will develop an appreciation and passion for reading with a curriculum focussed on texts established through the interests and voice of the students themselves; this allows students to express their personal identity through their written work. The chosen texts have been carefully selected to provide opportunities for students to explore, discuss and promote their emotional literacy. Students will develop their spoken and written communication skills to express their thoughts and feelings appropriately and challenge social, moral, spiritual and cultural issues.
Students will be encouraged to strive for success, preparing academically for examinations but also on a personal level for life after Adelaide Heath Academy. The English curriculum has been developed in a way that students will learn transferable skills for real life literacy application such as letter writing and responding in interviews.
